i always have a hard time making the shape of a charater stand out

how do you do that?

Well, even I'm not exactly sure on how I draw my stuff, but I think drawing an exaggerated sketch of a character definitely helps. It helps me since I'm very much fond of sketching stuff to get the idea of how the character's gonna turn out.
